Laughter… it keeps you young!
What’s so funny about getting old? Aging is an issue that creates dissonance in most of us. Popular humor in birthday cards tells us that the passing of another year means we are getting wrinkly, unattractive, and incontinent. It’s so important to laugh at ourselves and the inevitable.
A 90-year-old man was getting a pre-marital check-up and told his doctor he was preparing for his marriage to a beautiful 19-year-old girl. After an extensive exam, the doctor shook his head and said to the man, “I’m not sure this is such a good idea. It could prove fatal,” to which the man replied, “Well if she dies, she dies.”

FOXY LADY – Sexy, fashion-conscious, blue-haired beauty, 80’s, slim, 5’4″ (used to be 5’6″), searching for sharp-looking, sharp-dressing companion. Matching white shoes and a belt a plus.
LONG-TERM COMMITMENT – A recent widow has just buried her fourth husband, looking for someone to round out a six-unit plot.
Right Down to It – The Benefits of Laughter
- Laughter protects the heart and improves blood vessels’ function, which can help protect against heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
- Laughter decreases blood pressure and improves blood circulation and oxygen intake.
- Laughter relaxes the entire body, relieving muscle tension and stress.
- Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals.
Too often, aging is seen as a disease. A process to be feared and loathed and rarely anticipated with excitement. Humor can help with the changes, challenges, and unexpected obstacles and hazards. For most of us, a playful spirit and a hardy laugh can help us speak wise truths and bear the unbearable.
